I Heart Farmers' Markets

Just look at the summer happening on my plate.


 Delicious and stunning organic blackberries.


And lovely jewel toned organic pluots.  I remember pluot season in Seattle being one of my favorite times of year.  I can remember tasting these things for the first time and just being so happy.  I don't particularly like plums or apricots, but pluots are magic.  Some are more magic than others, the ones above are my favorite.  They go by different names, these above were labelled watermelon pluots, but I've also seen them called dinosaur egg pluots.  The key is that they have a mottled, reddish green skin and that the insides are the variegated red shown above.

Sometimes, California is pretty great, like when I was jogging along the beach this weekend.  Yeah, that was good too.

Sadly, fennel is just now out of season.  What is a girl to do?
